After placing second in last year’s race, Belize returned to the United States determined to place first in the Baker to Las Vegas 2019 challenge cup relay marathon.

The determination of Team Belize paid off as the team crossed the finish line as champions earlier today.  In a ceremony that was held tonight at the West Gate Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Belize law enforcement officers received their trophy for placing first in this year’s event. The event is an annual event where law enforcement officers from around the globe battle in a foot race starting from Baker, California and ending in Las Vegas, Nevada for a chance of winning the coveted trophy and title.

Last week, a contingent of Belize’s security forces, headed by Brigadier General David Jones and including the Belize Defense Force (BDF), the Belize Police Department (BPD) and the Belize Coast Guard, left Belize to participate in the annual prestigious race.

The 120 mile relay marathon is held annually and has the participation of over 200 other security teams from various states and jurisdictions.
